Wellington Girls College
Tower Block
Scope of Works -
The head contractor at the Wellington Girls College site handed ARC
Asbestos the contract to complete asbestos removal after they realised ARC
Asbestos had the skills, workforce and machinery to complete the works
far more efficiently. This would enable the wider programme of works to
progress on or ahead of schedule
Delivery -
Thomas Bishop, as Contract Manager, worked closely with the client to
schedule works around their requirements. He led the resourcing of the
project, bringing in a large team of over 10 personnel (all in-house, no
sub-contractors were required) to expedite delivery. Innovative grinding
equipment and processes ensured a high quality finish. The project was
completed well ahead of ahead of schedule, to the client’s immense
satisfaction
Challenges -
All asbestos had to be removed as efficiently as possible to enable the head
contractor to bring in the crane and begin the building demolition. The
tight timeframe posed a significant challenge with noise restrictions and
restrictions on works during exam times and school hours.
By bringing in our specialist-heavy team and task specific machinery, and
dedicating a large pool of resource while working long hours we were able
to reduce the programme from the 10 weeks expected by the previous
contractor, to just eight days.
