Tiritea dairy
A slice of Palmerston North’s century-old architecture was tasked with being dismantled as Featherston St’s Tiritea Dairy succumbs to the need for more housing. The demolition crew in charge was working to ensure its bricks (approx. 8 tonnes) and native timbers (approx. 4tonnes) are rescued and re-used. Bricks from the dairy, which might have been the first purpose-built dairy with accommodation constructed in the city, were being extracted and cleaned and would be available for sale. Leadlight windows and memorable signage were amongst the other items rescued.
