Bolton Place and Crewe Crescent

This project was for the demolition and salvaging of the existing buildings at 5 and 6 Bolton Place and 22, 24, 26 and 28 Crewe Crescent to enable the construction of multiple new Kāinga Ora homes. It also required significant re-staging and scope variation management after an unexpected finding of asbestos part way through delivery

The ARC Asbestos team commenced demolition at the site before finding flooring contaminated with asbestos. This resulted in an additional 300tonnes of material being removed from the site. We worked closely with the client to manage expectations and variations - and drew on our relationships with waste disposal groups to minimise the cost to the client. The client was very happy with our performance on this project.

The greatest challenge on this project was the large-scale salvaging operation while working around demolition and asbestos removal to gain access for removal. Our expert team oversaw the successful salvaging and recycling of two tonnes of native materials (from each property) which was made into custom furniture at Upcycle Depot. Further challenge was posed by the asbestos find, which was dealt with by proactive communication with the client to keep them informed about cost and time delays, and careful restaging to minimise delays while working closely with our industry contacts to secure the best possible pricing for disposal.
